Strategy & Activities

Globally, around 98% of Christians are not fully envisioned or equipped for their mission in 95% of their waking time. But, just imagine if they were...

Some 6.3% of people in the UK go to church once a month or more. One person in sixteen - a figure in decline. Yet 3.8m people represent tremendous potential for the gospel in this nation. The reality is that the people of God are out in the world. Day after day they're on the frontline in schools and workplaces, homes and neighbourhoods. They're involved in politics and the arts, business and social action, relating to scores of people every week. Every contact leaves a trace.

Unless they're in paid church employment or in certain life contexts, it's unlikely that they can spend more than 10 hours a week directly involved with the gathered life of the church. The remaining 110 hours of the waking week they'll be on the 'frontline'. How then will the notional 10 hours of gathered life equip and support the 110 hours dispersed? This is the challenge to our churches - to become a whole-life disciple-making communities that release people for their whole-life mission in the world. It's a profound challenge to the culture of most churches in mission in the UK - to extend beyond an essentially 'leisure time' mission strategy, and learn to equip God's people for missionary discipleship in all of life.

We seek to champion the cause of whole-life disciple-making through a variety of activities:

  • Training
  • Mentoring/coaching
  • Consultancy
  • Development of key resources
  • Speaking and writing
  • Research
  • Collaborating with denominations and other organisations
  • Communications such as web, events, publications.

Through these we seek to develop and disseminate wisdom for Christians on the frontline and for churches that are learning to become whole-life disciple-making communities.

We develop our activities and projects around two centres - the Imagine Project, focusing on helping churches in the culture shift to become a whole-life disciple-making community, and Christians in the workplace whom we are planning to serve more fruitfully through a new Work Forum from the autumn 2011.

Whilst LICC's activities are focused - we're a small organisation - our concern to see Christians flourish as disciples of Christ wherever they are goes beyond our own boundaries, The workplace is one context for 'whole-life mission'; there are many more that others serve well.

We want Christians to grasp the biblicial bredth and depth of a 'whole-life gospel' and to discern how today's culture shapes and forms them as disciples.

That's why we offer two free e-mails a week - Word for the Week and Connecting with Culture. They're easy to subscribe to. And we also offer a range of resources to engage with the Bible and to engage with Culture.
