Brian Eno and David Byrne have recently re-released their seminal collaboration from ’81. Entitled ‘My life in the bush of ghosts’ , as with much of Eno’s work, it’s considered to have had a profound influence on the shape of pop music - mainly because it was one of the first albums to extensively use sampling. Eno and Byrne ‘borrowed’ from excerpts of ecstatic sermonising by Pentecostal ministers, ‘The Jezebel Spirit', and sections of the Koran being read allowed, 'Qu’ran', - although the latter track has been omitted from the re-release due to objections from the Islamic council of Great Britain.
As you’d expect not as refined as later exponents of sampling but it’s an intriguing, if darkly atmospheric, listen.

Bought it on vinyl when it was first released... now THAT dates me! Still remember being terrified listening to the exorcism samples on headphones. There is a song called 'Qu'ran' on the original vinyl release, was axed from the original CD, and isn't on this one either. Point to note: some of the tracks are available to remix online. Haven't tried it myself, but if anyone has a few hours to spare, visit http://bushofghosts.wmg.com/home.php
