An interesting e-mail arrived in my in-box the other day which some of you might be interested in:

11 September is not only the 5th anniversary of the World Trade Centre
disaster. It's 100 years since Gandhi made his famous declaration of non-violent passive resistance ("satyagraha") in front of 3000 Indians in the Empire Theatre in Johannesburg.

At 10.30 am on Sunday 10 September we will mark Gandhi's far-reaching action with a short act of commitment to his principles of non-violence. It will include readings from Gandhi's writings, a short talk and some prayers.

We also hope to create a memorable visual image that might catch media attention the next day - we have arranged to borrow "Gandhi" from Madame Tussaud's and will stage a photograph of him in St Ethelburga's surrounded by 100 people.

I hope you might consider joining us for half an hour or so that morning both for the act of commitment and for the photo call. Friends and relatives most welcome. If you can come, please let us know.
