It was a particular joy for Mark Greene to be invited to talk at the golden jubilee celebration of the UK Navigators in London and Manchester in 2005, as he was led to Christ and discipled by people associated with the organisation. Mark examines Jesus’ response to the ‘harassed and helpless’ crowds in Matthew 9, noting that there are two main groups of people who might be described as ‘harassed and helpless’ in contemporary Britain: people who don’t yet know Jesus, and people who do. Speaking from Matthew 28, he explained that Jesus didn’t tell the Twelve to make converts but to make disciples – people who not only rejoice in their assurance of heaven but try to live the way of Christ in the world and commit to learning from one another.
