Worker

Work. Overall work has been getting tougher for UK workers for at least the last 15 years – whether you are a Christian or not. Longer hours, more pressure, less joy and, for many people, including a huge percentage of Chairmen and senior managers, the absence of a sense of meaning and purpose in what they do. Right now, in the midst of the crunch, it’s probably even tougher, not only for those looking for work but for those in it. Fear’s icy fingers chill many a corridor.

But work remains the primary activity God created us to pursue - in communion with him, and in partnership with others, for the benefit of humankind and to the glory of God. And that applies whether our primary work is in the home, in a school, an office, a factory, a field or a church.

How, in these obviously uncertain days, do we live out our discipleship of Christ in our workplaces, helping to do good work, helping to create workplaces that are good to work in and showing and sharing the difference the Gospel makes?

We may know the answer in general terms: we are called to work, as we live, by faith in Him, in the power of the Spirit, in humble and determined obedience to His word, to seek his Wisdom, and with the fellowship and support of his people and our local church. Still, how do we begin to do that and how do we keep going?

This site has a whole range of resources that we hope will help you - articles, interviews with workers from different job areas, reviews, talks, group material - that relate to a wide range of topics, a range that we hope will grow in scope and depth, with your help, as we all seek to do our Father and Boss's will on earth as it is in heaven, in our workplaces as it is in heaven.

May it be so for you and for me.

Mark Greene
