Engaging with Youth

Mission and Discipleship

‘Growth in faith begins with God’s ever present invitation to communion, to a new or renewed relationship with God.’ Sondra Higgins Matthaei

As you'll find out from these pages mission is an integral part of discipleship, because, as the great commission makes clear, discipleship is the mission. The focus here is on how we fulfil that mission with young people who have no or little interest in faith: how do we encourage 'spiritual literacy' among young people who have no or little prior knowledge of Christianity? We may argue that Britain is not yet wholly post-Christian but, by and large, the young people we find ourselves working with are. The discussions and resources here are aimed at furthering our understanding of how we nurture Biblical literacy; how we create communities that model authentic and authoritative faith; and what are the skills and wisdom set a 21st century disciple-maker needs?
