Engaging with Youth

Whole Life Young Disciples

Discipling can be described as a nurturing towards maturity. Whole life discipling acknowledges that there is no area of life – be it work, play or rest - that God cannot use to help nurture us towards a greater understanding of the relationship between creator and created.

Whole life discipling is about joining the dots: helping young people see that there is no division between life inside and outside of 'Church': between the sacred and the secular, between things of the 'spirit' and things of the 'flesh.' A God who tasked us with taking care of a world filled with rich abundance and diversity expects us to use all the means at our disposal to fulfil that role. So he's is as interested in the way our young people fill shelves at the local supermarket as he is in their latest attempts at poetry, writing worship songs or choosing a career.
And whole life discipling also means that we help young people connect deeply with the Bible: That their outlook on life is informed by a passionate understanding of God's grand narrative. And that they understand their place in that story so they can make sense of their role in the world they find themselves in. We also help them navigate the tricky waters of the clash of cultures - the challenges of living for God in a society that tells a story of either deep apathy or cynicism towards those of a faith perspective.
You'll find here articles and resources that connect faith with contemporary culture - be it film, media, education or the world of work - and explore issues of worldview and contemporary apologetics.
