Imagine Project

Imagine Research

One of the central aims of the Imagine Project is to listen to the issues Christians are encountering as contemporary disciples of Jesus. On these pages read some of the research that has been conducted in the course of the project.

Apprentice '09Apprentice 09

In April 2009, Imagine conducted an in depth online survey of 3,000 people attending the Spring Harvest event. We heard their perspectives on apprenticeship and the challenges they face as disciples of Jesus in today's world.

What the People Said

One of the purposes of engaging people in the Imagine conversation was to gain a wider perspective on the challenges of living as a Christian in today's world. Readers of the 2003 article Imagine: how we can reach the UK were asked to give their reactions to the essay and relate it to their own experiences. Over 800 people responded.

They described the issues they had faced over the last year

  • at home
  • at work
  • at church
  • in their personal spiritual lives

and thought about how the ministries of their church had helped them to live through these challenges as followers of Christ.

What the Leaders Said

After Imagine: how we can reach the UK was published in March 2003, LICC and the Evangelical Alliance ran a series of consultations with different groups of Christian leaders. Around 150 leaders were involved in nine consultations with others operating in similar contexts:

  • pastors of large churches
  • pastors of small churches
  • prayer network leaders
  • evangelistic agencies
  • disciple making ministries
  • theological colleges
  • conference providers
  • workplace ministries
  • denominational leaders

The consultations were designed to gain feedback, generate debate, and stimulate thinking about issues of contemporary disciplemaking. They were intended as part of a process that would re-energise the Church's approaches to helping Christians grow in faith and life.
