Prayer is difficult. We are co-labouring with God to impact our workplaces. Only a renewed belief that prayer 'works' - that it is powerful and effective, that our prayers are heard - will cause us to push through the fears and difficulties. Prayer forces us to face our own lack of control; it challenges our desire to be seen to be doing something; it drives us to seek his wisdom rather than lean on our own understanding; in short, it confronts us with our total dependency on our loving, all powerful Father and our need to submit to his timing. Ouch!
'To spend a lot of time in prayer, waiting on God, and merely worshipping him may seem a waste of time to many. Just as to many it seemed wasteful when the woman poured out costly perfume on the feet of Jesus. The truth is however, that it is humbling to cry out to God. It is humbling to spend time just waiting on his presence. It is humbling to say to oneself: "The very best I can do today is to minister to he who is best of all". ... Prayer by very nature repels the proud, because in essence, to seriously pray is to recognise that what we need the most, only God can provide.' (Pursuing Open Heavens by Marc Dupont, p.31)
