1 Peter is a treasure in the New Testament, with a significance out of all proportion to its size.

Peter’s description of Christians as ‘strangers in the world’ seems particularly apt in a context where Jesus’ followers increasingly find themselves out of step with surrounding society, reduced to what feels like an odd minority, going against the flow and sometimes being ostracised for doing so.

For his original readers, and for Christians today, Peter provides a perspective on the church that enables us to understand and live out our missional identity in today’s world, walking the line between withdrawal and assimilation. Along the way Peter has things to say about God’s work in salvation and the nature of the community of faith and witness that flow from it, all rooted in the pattern of Jesus himself, in whose steps we are called to follow.

The day will be led by Antony Billington and Neil Hudson, members of the LICC team, and will involve a combination of input and interaction. The workshop will be especially suitable for church leaders and preachers who would like to reflect on how to preach 1 Peter from a whole-life perspective, but will also be helpful to others who would value an opportunity to explore how this part of the Bible nurtures Christian identity and discipleship in today’s world.
